From the Godden/Sudik website description of styles, I think we align most closely with the Mountain Farmhouse style. We like a gabled, medium-pitched roof, mix of siding materials, larger windows, and simpler details. I think we will pick a light-medium color scheme with some contrast so it will not disappear into the hilltop where we are building. Although we don’t want a true Craftsman exterior, I think I may want to use some simplified Craftsman-inspired trim and molding in the interior. Maybe that will factor into the exterior?

Inspiration Images:
The theme I’m hoping to draw out of these photos is lighter stone/brick, medium contrast, medium roof pitch. I’d like a welcoming front porch.

I like the colors and materials. I don’t like the shallow overhang and the narrow front entry.
Here are some of my thoughts: (Many are not appearance related)
FRONT ENTRY
- Wide front door or double doors (safety?)
- Wide enough porch for a seating area.
- Sidelights with impact resistant glass.
- Hard-wired and blocked in eaves and alongside doors for multiple camera angles and doorbell camera.
- Wide side lights (impact-resistant glass)
- Hose bib nearby to serve porch (sprinkler drip system would be awesome)
DRIVEWAYS, SIDEWALKS & OTHER CONCRETE
- Space to to exit vehicles on concrete without stepping onto grass or rocks?
- Wide sidewalks
- Consider turning radius of cars for entry and exit.
- Where will residents park when they want to just “run in.” Will it block other bays?
- Where will guests park? Short-term? Longer-term?
- Curving sidewalk for aesthetics
- Sidewalk around entire base of home to allow for easy access to uplighting, Christmas decor, shrub cleanup, etc.
HOSE BIBS
- On all corners. A couple with hot and cold. (Car washing in inclement weather, pet baths, etc.)
- Consider where hoses will hang when not in use.
- Concrete under hose bib.
- Future greenhouse? Attached? Plumbing to location.
- Raised bed gardening. Irrigation access? Standing hose spigot nearby?
LANDSCAPE & IRRIGATION
- Pre-planned with expansion zones included. (Future trees)
- Conduit under driveway for future sprinkler expansion.
SECURITY
- Wired for camera doorbell and cameras on key corners of home
- Alarm system?
- Automatic motion-sensor lights
LIGHTING & ELECTRICAL
- Eave lights on each corner of home (but careful of placement near bedrooms)
- Uplight or downlight placement
- Outlets in eaves for Christmas lights
- Or, permanent holiday lighting installed
- Electrical outlets each side of door
