I’d like the vanities separated in some way. Either flanked on each side of a doorway, or on opposing walls. He gets a tall cabinet, sink/counter space. I get a tall cabinet, sink/counter space, and a makeup area with seat. We need adequate age-in-place space, but not a cavernous area.

I’m not sold on a free-standing tub yet. There’s no way to sit on the edge to wash feet or swivel into the tub. But maybe I’ll change my mind. Regardless of that choice, I want a wall within reach that will accommodate a wide tiled shelf or niche for supplies or decor.

I’d like to avoid some of the all-glass trends in showers. One of the videos shows a pass-through, tiled shower sitting behind the tub.

The water closet needs to be spacious and have some toiletry storage. I never see any inspo photos of that setup, so I’ll need help thinking this through.

Water closet

  • Outlet for bidet
  • Small cabinet for TP, plunger, toilet brush, Clorox wipes, Lysol spray, etc.
  • Space for wheelchair turn-around
  • Pocket door for safety? If not, door swings outward?
  • Out of line-of-sight from vanities and mirror reflection

Cabinet towers for each vanity

  • Counter depth with pull-out drawers.
  • Toothbrushes, with outlets
  • Pull-outs for lotions, etc.
  • Drawers for makeup, etc.
  • Outlets for hairdryers, straightener.
  • Towel storage

Her sink area

  • Full-height toiletry cabinet
  • All drawers wherever possible.
  • Deep drawer at bottom of sink base for cleaning supplies. Lockable?
  • Concealed, large, locking medicine cabinet (behind mirror?) Require 2×6 walls?
  • Towel holder with blocking
  • Makeup counter parallel with, or perpendicular to, the sink area.

His sink area

  • Full-height toiletry cabinet.
  • All drawers wherever possible.
  • Deep drawer at bottom of sink base for cleaning supplies. Lockable?
  • Concealed, large, locking medicine cabinet (behind mirror?)
  • Towel holder with blocking

Tub area

  • Extra-long, possible two person?
  • Built-in or under-mount? Not sold on freestanding yet.
  • Insulated or heated?
  • Ledge or decking for bottles. Decorative shelf storage for towels and faux plant.
  • Overhead focal lighting.
  • Tub in front of or near shower for final rinse off.
  • Space for a simple chair nearby.

Shower area

  • Steam shower?
  • As little glass as possible, just enough to hold in heat.
  • Two-person
  • Either one long and tall niche or three stacked, tall niches, with the bottom one serving as a foot rest for washing/shaving.
  • Sliding, hand-held sprayer in addition to normal shower head, but not directly under the shower head
  • Large-format tile or porcelain on walls. No strong accents in niche.
  • Envelope style tile cuts on large format tile on floor.
  • Matching floor in tile with rest of shower?
  • Curbless
  • Controls accessible from shower door to allow water to get hot.
  • Space for towel storage (5-6) just outside of shower, perhaps a wall rack.
  • Two horizontal towel bars for drying. (Not just hooks.)
  • Pivot arms for towels. Bonus if heated.
  • ?Shower dryer?

Electrical

  • Enough ircuits to handle load of two hair dryers?
  • Fans for ventilation
  • Multiple ways to control lighting
  • 2-and 3-way switches for lights
  • Tankless water heater?
  • Recirculating water?
  • GFCI low wall outlets for vacuum, small lamp, etc.

Heating

  • In-ceiling heat unit?
  • Radiant heat in floors
  • Door can be closed to hold in heat.

General considerations

  • Control line of sight from bedroom entry into bathroom area if door where to be open.
  • Walkthrough bath to master closet
  • Control light from bathroom shining on someone still in bed.
  • Windows take advantage of morning sun.

Love the cabinets on the side of each vanity. I want the vanities separated. He gets a vanity with a cabinet. I get a vanity with a cabinet and also a makeup area.

Master Bath has nice shower tub setup that uses less glass.

Master closet at 30 seconds is very space efficient with 3-tier hanging rods.
